Homemade donuts this morning

I saw somewhere (maybe pinterest) that you could use refrigerated biscuit dough to make donuts at home, so I thought I might try it. My kids love donuts (who doesn't?) but I *do not* love having to go out and spend money at a donut store. ;-) When I searched for the method of how to make them this morning, there were several recipes, and the first on the list was from Paula Deen. I am interested to know if the home method is "healthier" than buying them from the store...I may have to do a search for that, too.

I picked up some biscuit dough at the store this week; I was able to get the store brand for $1.79. This gave us 6 donuts and 6 donut holes. I made chocolate and vanilla icing with confectioners sugar and milk and mixed up some cinnamon and sugar. I always have sprinkles of some sort, too.

They turned out pretty good; I will say that I will need to leave them in the oil a little longer next time...there were some spots that weren't quite cooked through. But I think they were a hit. Will do this one again, especially since it cost me about $2 maximum to make 6 donuts and holes.
